Educational strategy and methodology

SOL’s teaching team has developed a unique program based on interactive teaching whose educational goal is for each pupil to achieve a level of Spanish language comparable to the one of their peers who live in Mexico, with regard to comprehension, conversation, writing and reading.

The pedagogical methodology has been developed using a combination of innovative strategies for the online language teaching, traditional programs that have been tested over the years and the use of new educational technologies.

The designed program is thematic and based on children’s various interests, on the group age and on their language fluency.

The groups meet 3 or 4 times per week, using the Zoom platform. Each pupil is assigned to a group depending on their age and their level of Spanish. The pupils’ language proficiency is determined during the first session and they are assigned to one of three groups: beginner, intermediate or advanced. At the same time, the pupils are placed with their peers of similar age, in one of the three categories: 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12-year-olds. There are between 3 and 5 pupils in the youngest age groups and between 5 and 8 pupils in the older age groups. In this way, an individualized education is sought, based on each pupil’s needs but enriched by the pupils’ coexistence.

The online teaching concept is based on modern educational methods of language teaching for children which include communication, exploration-based learning and socio-emotional interactions that enable the pupils to reach their potential. On the other hand, teaching is based on two premises: the first one is intrinsically bound to the needs and abilities of each age, and the second one to each pupil’s language proficiency level classified in three groups. All the above mentioned is combined with teaching online dynamics that catch the pupils’ interest, motivation and enthusiasm towards the classes and that are reflected in a better language and culture learning.
